Obituary for Sam Lee

FISHKILL - Samuel Lee, Sr., 101, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2022. He was a resident of Fishkill since 1952.

Born on July 27, 1921 in Statesboro, GA, Sam was the son of the late Samuel and Lola (McCullough) Lee, Sr. He graduated from Pokes Junior High School in Statesboro, GA. He had been employed as an estate caretaker and farmer for Steven W. Blodgett in Fishkill and Garrison for 60 years until retirement.

On December 1, 1939 in Georgia, Sam married Lossie Mae (Slater) Lee who survives at home after almost 83 years of marriage! In 2009 and 2019, James Miccio, the Mayor of the Village of Fishkill proclaimed December 1st as "Sam and Lossie Lee Day" in recognition of their 70th and 80th wedding anniversaries.

Sam was an active member of the Beulah Baptist Church in Wappingers Falls, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Treasurer of the Trustee Board, and member of the men's choir. He was also a proud member of Protection Engine Company #1 in Fishkill. Sam enjoyed working outdoors, especially gardening and taking care of the lawn. He also loved fishing with his family.

Sam is also survived his children, Herbert Lee, Retha Smith, Ernest Lee and his wife Barbara, Robert Lee and his wife Kathy, and Samuel Lee, Jr.; his 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great grandchildren; and 3 great-great-great grandchildren and his sister Catherine Owens of Florida. . In addition to his parents, Sam was also predeceased by his daughters-in-law, Midge Lee and Lisa Lee. As the patriarch of the family, his legacy of love will continue for many generations to come.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 11 am at the Fishkill Baptist Church, 107 Route 82, Fishkill followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
