WAPPINGERS FALLS – David J. Garvey, 76, died peacefully on October 2, 2022 at the Regional Hospice of Danbury surrounded by his loving family. An area resident since 1973, he formerly lived in the Bronx.
Born in Manhattan on September 26, 1946, he was the son of Michael and Mary (O’Connor) Garvey. Dave proudly served our country in the US Army 11th Armored Cavalry during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a salesman for Friehoffer Baking Company and owner of Executive Transportation.
Dave was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. He was a member of St. Mary’s Council #4065, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, VFW in Wappingers Falls, DAV at Castle Point and proud Friend of Bill for 39 years.
On September 12, 1970 at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Bronx, Dave married the love of his life, Clare Connor, who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Jacqueline and Robert Cubberly, Brian and Elizabeth Garvey; his grandchildren Andrew, Allison, Colin, Connor and Michael; his brother, Michael Garvey and Julia Connolly; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Dennis Garvey.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, social workers, OT’s, PT’s and staff of both Castle Point VAMC and the Regional Hospice at Danbury for their love and support. Dave’s wish was to donate his brain to the Ican School of Medicine Neuropathology Brain Bank at Mt. Sinai Hospital for Agent Orange Research.
