Obituary for Luigi Osso

Luigi Osso, a resident of Hopewell Junction, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 5, 2022. He was 87.

Son of the late Pasquale and Maria (Pate) Osso, he was born in San Lucido, Italy on June 17, 1935. On October 31, 1959, he married Carmela Guglielmo-Pate. Luigi and Carmela began raising their family in Italy. In 1971, he emigrated to the United States to prepare a foundation for his wife and children, who joined him four years later. They lived in the Bronx for several years and then relocated to Yonkers, and later Mahopac. They moved to Hopewell Junction in 2006.

Luigi was a hardworking man who dedicated his career to masonry and construction. He was a member of the Laborer’s Local 235 (Elmsford, NY), and retired in 2000. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, and his hobbies included gardening, making wine & Italian sausage, and in his later years he became a great cook. More than anything else, however, Luigi cherished spending time with his family.
His wife of 63 years, Carmela, survives at home in Hopewell Junction. Additional survivors include his daughter, Maria Osso & her husband Claudio Scanga of Rome, Italy; his daughter, Rosetta Commisso & her husband Frank of Hopewell Junction; his daughter, Mirella Sayegh & her husband Basem of Mahopac; his son, Luigi Osso, Jr. & his wife Maria of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren: Francesca, Emanuela, Cristina, Christopher, Sabrina, Thomas, Michael, and Isabella; his great-grandchildren, Massimo, Davide, and Flavia; his siblings, Anna Osso, Francesco Osso, and Emilia Osso; also many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

Luigi was predeceased by his parents as well as three siblings, Delfina Osso, Giuseppe Osso, and Settimio Osso.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9 at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Entombment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley.
