Obituary for Angelina Grippi

Angelina Grippi, beloved matriarch of the Grippi family, passed away on November 18, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at age 96.

She was born Angelina Barbera, daughter of Antoinette and Domenick Barbera, in New York, New York on September 25, 1926. After graduating college, she worked in a hospital as a dietician until she married Frederick Grippi on September 7, 1947. They started their lives together in the Bronx. After having three children, Carolyn, Melinda, and Freddy, they moved to Greenwood Lane in Westchester, where two more children, Toni and Joey, were born. The memories of Greenwood Lane will live on forever - the whole family would gather for Friday night homemade pizzas or pizza frita, Sunday family pasta dinners, holiday celebrations with extended family, games of Philadelphia Rummy, Scrabble, Pokeno, and Running Bases, barbeques and swimming, and hot chocolate with marshmallows after playing in the snow.

Angelina and Fred moved to the Poconos in 1997 where she enjoyed walks around the lake, having breakfast on her screened-in porch, entertaining her family and friends, attending daily mass, and participating in a quilting group where she made at least one quilt for each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. They moved to Dutchess County in 2007. They continued to gather for every occasion and non-occasion for she was the center and heart of our family. Angelina and Fred lived at The Fountain at Millbrook for 6 years and then moved in with their daughter, Toni, and her family.

Angelina built a family full of love, rich in traditions. She was known for her many varieties of Christmas cookies, gourmet meals, grilled cheese sandwiches, quilts, paintings, and devotion to God, her husband, and her children. She was a fierce, faithful woman who instilled loving, generous values in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was unstoppable in her love for everyone she met. Her love for Jesus and the Rosary radiated through all her selfless actions.

Angelina was predeceased by her parents, siblings, and her wonderful daughter, Carolyn Bavero. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Frederick Grippi, her sister and brother-in-law, Gina and Hank Marchese, her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and George Bennett, her son and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Patty Grippi, her daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Frank Russolello, her son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Angela Grippi, 23 grandchildren, soon to be 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her legacy of love and devotion will live on forever.
