Obituary for Cleon Josiah Sawyer

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Cleon Josiah Sawyer, 93, a resident of Myrtle Beach, SC, died on November 28, 2022. He previously lived in Hopewell Junction, NY.

Born on October 4, 1929 in Yonkers, NY, Cleon was the son of the late Harold and Bridget (Tobin) Sawyer. He proudly served in the US Army in Austria during the Korean War. On June 25, 1950 in Millerton, he married Marjorie C. (Coons) Sawyer who predeceased him in 2010. He was employed in the printing industry for over 45 years until his retirement. Cleon had been a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church in Hopewell Junction, NY.

Cleon is survived by his son, Gary Sawyer and his wife Frieda of Myrtle Beach, SC; his son-in-law, Chuck Irving of AZ; his grandchildren, Kelly and Nathan Fears of Clover, SC and Amanda and Jeremy Carlin of Myrtle Beach, SC; his great-grandchildren, Oliver and Eva Lynne Fears; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Cleon was also predeceased by his daughter, Dianne Irving in 1978; and his granddaughters, Ellie and Emma Fears in 2013.

Visitation will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY on Tuesday, December 6th from 11 am – 12 pm with a service beginning at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Irondale Cemetery in Millerton with military honors.
