Obituary for Kathleen M. Brownell

Kathleen M. Brownell, a lifelong local area resident, passed away following a brief illness on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 67.

Daughter of the late John and Genevieve (Schulte) Malloy, she was born in White Plains on September 7, 1955. Kathy attended local schools and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School (Poughkeepsie) in 1973.

As an active community volunteer, Kathy spearheaded fundraising efforts and served in many capacities for local nonprofit organizations including Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley, Hudson Valley House of Hope, Vassar Brothers Medical Center Foundation, and many other charitable groups.

Kathy loved to travel, and especially enjoyed trips to Lake George and spending winters in the Florida Keys. As an avid golfer, she took great pride in developing her skills and becoming an excellent player in more recent years.

On April 12, 1986, she married Charles “Chip” Brownell in Cold Spring. Chip survives at home in Fishkill.

Additional survivors include her daughter, Christen Battaglia of Lessburg, VA; her son, Benjamin Brownell of Fishkill; her grandchildren, Charles and Willa Battaglia; her sisters, Diane Roberts (Dennis), Patricia Malloy (Mark Barry), and Judy Cahill (Mike Hartney); as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Michael Malloy.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
