Obituary for William F. Clarke

WAPPINGERS FALLS-William F. Clarke, 80, an area resident for over 50 years, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on January 15, 2023. He previously lived in the Bronx.

Born in the Bronx on April 6, 1942, William was the son of the late Thomas K. and Sarah (Mitchell) Clarke. William proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired in 1999 as foreman from Allied Plywood in the Bronx where he worked for over 30 years.

An avid fan of the NY Giants and NY Yankees, William also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many years volunteering as a coach for the East Fishkill Baseball and Softball Leagues, and loved attending the games of his children, neighbors, and friends.

On November 20, 1965 in the Bronx, he married Deborah (Downer) Clarke who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Thomas M. Clarke of Pompano Beach, FL, William F. Clarke of Wappingers Falls, Craig M. Clarke of Wappingers Falls, and Laura Clarke and her significant other Brian Rennack of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Liam Platero-Clarke, Alana Platero-Clarke, Raina Rennack, and Samantha Clarke; his brother, John K. Clarke and his wife Marie; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, William was also predeceased by his siblings, Anne VanGorder, Thomas Clarke, Sally Clarke, and Michael P. Clarke.

The family would like to thank Hudson Valley Hospice and especially William’s nurse, Jennifer, for their care and compassion.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10:30 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
