Verbank - Otto J. Miranda III of Verbank, New York passed away on January 17th, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 63 years old.
Otto was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York on September 17th, 1959, to Father Otto James Miranda Jr. and Mother Dale Loretta Winters. He moved with his family to Poughquag, New York in 1968, and it didn't take him long to begin making friendships and connections which would last him a lifetime. Otto was a true friend to many - he was caring, kind, and always showed up as his genuine self. It was nearly impossible to go anywhere with him in Dutchess County without hearing "Hey, Otto!" ring out from somewhere, and he was always happy to stop and chat.
Otto was a talented athlete in his adolescent years and beyond - in his youth, he became involved in baseball and hockey, eventually forming the Arlington High School hockey team and went on to play semi-professional hockey for the Dutchess Blues. He also played softball for many years in the "Groundhog League", and eventually took up golf. He was extremely passionate about golf, and played in multiple leagues including the "Aloy's League" at College Hill Golf Course and the "American Eagle Men's League" at the Beekman Golf Course, which he took great pride in. He also enjoyed fishing, and spent countless hours patiently teaching his daughter, and eventually his granddaughter.
Otto graduated from Arlington High School in 1977, and shortly thereafter opened a landscaping business, and eventually his own construction business called Miranda Construction, with his father. He went on to work as a Project Manager for 20 years at HHR Construction, and most recently worked as a Senior Construction Inspector at LaBella Associates in Poughkeepsie. His knowledge and expertise in construction was unmatched.
On October 9th, 1983, Otto married the love of his life Lori Ann Richards at St. John's Church in Pawling, NY. His devotion to his family, including his daughter Alyssa Spano and granddaughter Violet Spano, cannot be understated. He viewed his son-in-law, Justin Spano, as a son to him and treated him as such. He was heavily involved in his granddaughter's life as "her Poppy" and shared many fun hobbies with her, always with patience and love.
In addition to his wife Lori and his parents, Otto is survived by his daughter Alyssa Spano (Justin), his granddaughter Violet Spano, his sisters Jean Dauenheimer (Glenn) and Dawn Thayer (Gary). He is also survived by his nieces Paige and Katie Dauenheimer, Juliet Tinnie and Danielle Hunt, as well as his sisters-in-law Michele Richards (Don) and Suzanne Richards (Patrick) and Cousin John Maruzzi.
Otto is predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Paul and Joyce Richards.
Calling hours will be Monday January 23, 2023, at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, NY from 3pm-7pm, with a service beginning at 6:30pm in the funeral home.
