Obituary for Brenda Marie Davis

Brenda Marie Davis, a local area resident for more than 30 years, passed away peacefully at home in Fishkill on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. She was 73.

Daughter of the late William and Lucille (Baker) Thompson, she was born in the Bronx on March 11, 1949.

When Brenda was 11 years old, her mother passed away and she was taken in by her Aunt, Betty Merrill of Virginia, who already had seven children of her own, a very tough task in the early 1960’s. The Merrill family helped mold Brenda into the beautiful soul that she became.

Brenda worked for several years at I.B.M., but later found her true passion in education. She became the Learning Center Coordinator at John Jay Senior High School in East Fishkill, where she remained for twelve years until her retirement in 2013. Throughout her time at John Jay, she became a trusted advisor to an incalculable number of students, many of whom remained in touch with Brenda years after graduating.

She had the uncanny ability to form lifelong bonds & friendships with people from all aspects of her life, beginning with neighborhood friends from the Highbridge section of the Bronx. She remained in contact with everyone and touched countless souls over the course of her life and will be remembered for her outgoing personality and positive spirit.

On December 29, 2000, she married Mark E. Davis in Kingston. Mark, a retired New York State Corrections Officer, survives at home in Fishkill.

Additional survivors include her son, Frank Chismar & his wife Keri of Hopewell Junction; her son, William Davis of Orlando, FL; her grandchildren, Liam Chismar and Maya Baez; as well as many other loving relatives & friends.

Brenda was predeceased by her brother William Thompson of California.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 3 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Applied Behavior Analyst PLLC, 25 Route 376, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. For online tributes, you can visit Brenda’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
