Obituary for Francesco Louis "Frank" Tommarello

Francesco (Frank) Tommarello, 92, of Baldwinsville passed away Thursday, March 9, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Francesco was born May25, t930, in the Bronx, New York, the son of Pasquale and Serafina Tommarello.

He enlisted in the army at an early age, serving from May 1947 to October 1948. After leaving the Army, Francesco purchased and ran a General Store in the Bronx for several years before becoming a route driver for the American Baking Company, a job he held for over 30 years. He also volunteered as a DAV driver for the Castle Point VA Hospital in Dutchess County.

Francesco is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Carmela (Cannata).

ln 2002, Francesco and Carmela moved to Baldwinsville from Hopewell Junction, New York to be closer to their grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Francesco enjoyed attending all of their sporting events, concerts, dance recitals and various other activities through the years as he watched them grow, with pride, into adulthood. Francesco was a regular patron of several local diners in Baldwinsville and Phoenix, and he enjoyed visiting the Salmon River Fish Hatchery in Altmar, but most of all, he enjoyed being with family.


He is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Per) Hellman; a son, Thomas (Sandi), and three grandchildren: Brian (Amanda), Eric (Belinda), and Marisa.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31 Baldwinsville, NY 13027. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3494 State Route 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.

Also, calling hours will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. The Rite of Committal and Entombment will take place in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie NY with Military Honors.
