Obituary for Antonino "Tony" Morfea
Antonino “Tony” Morfea, at the age 83, a resident of Hopewell Junction, and formerly of Mahopac and Italy, passed away on March 20, 2023.
Tony was born on December 20, 1939 in Solano, Province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. At the age of 18 he came to the United State of America to start a new life.
Tony married Caterina Morfea in 1966 and had four children; Peter Morfea, Luigi Morfea, Giovanna Cioppa & Enza Johnson. He was known as “Tony the Barber” and owned Rome Barber Shop, a successful business that he operated for over 50 years. He was passionate about making homemade wine and loved to share this tradition as well as other Southern Italian traditions with his children & grandchildren. He was also active in the community, serving as the president of the Mahopac Italian American Club for 10 years and also involved with the Knights of Columbus.
Tony was known to be full of life, constantly active with a fierce determination and generous spirit. He had a quick-witted humor and loved to joke around with friends & family. Truly the life of the party!
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 56 years, Caterina and their children & grandchildren; Peter (son), Rocco (grandson), Luigi (son), Jennifer (daughter-in-law), Anthony (grandson), Rose (granddaughter), Michael (grandson), Nathaniel (grandson), Giovanna (daughter), Aaron (son-in-law), Rebecca (granddaughter), Abigail (granddaughter), Enza (daughter), Matt (son-in-law), Gabriella (granddaughter), and Lillian (granddaughter).
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 – 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
