Obituary for Joyce DeLuise

FISHKILL – Joyce DeLuise, 76, a Fishkill area resident for 16 years, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2023. She previously lived in Mahopac, NY. Born on July 24, 1946 in Manhattan, Joyce was the daughter of the late Guido and Theresa (Attanasio) Baiardi.

On January 6, 1968, she married Joseph DeLuise who survives at home after 55 years of marriage. She is also survived by her children, Jeannie DeLuise Smith and her husband David of Westport, CT and Michael DeLuise and his wife Debora of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Samantha DeLuise, Luke DeLuise, Caleb Smith, Nathan Smith, Chloe Smith, Jake DeLuise, and Noah Smith; her sister, Laura Rubeis; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Joyce loved spending quality time with her family and friends both in person and on the phone. She was a beautiful wife of noble character who loved her husband, Joe, so very much in their Christ-centered marriage all the days of her life. Her children and grandchildren will always cherish the amazing gift from God she was to them. She was so very proud of all her children and grandchildren going above and beyond to celebrate every birthday, milestone, and success they experienced with fullness of joy.

Joyce truly loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength and she loved her neighbor as herself. She was a devoted Christian who was an active member of Faith Assembly of God in Poughkeepsie, and had served in many various children’s and women’s ministries over the years. She will be remembered as a faithful prayer warrior who was a consistent student of God’s word. Every day she entered her upstairs prayer room with her Bible to lift all the people she loved to the Lord in prayer. Joyce especially adored spending time with her many precious friends and sisters in Christ.

She enjoyed playing board games, especially Scrabble and kept her house in pristine condition and beautifully decorated. An avid crafter, Joyce was a skilled knitter. As a way of celebrating life, she enjoyed making baby blankets over the years for family and friends. Joyce had a very special way of ‘knitting hearts together’ to demonstrate her love for those around her. Gift giving was her love language, and she looked forward to family holidays and celebrations. More than anything, Joyce will be remembered as a selfless, kind, prayerful, and gentle wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who loved spreading endless joy to all who knew her. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and He praises her: Many women do noble things but you surpass them all.” (Proverbs 31:28-29)

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1 – 5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
