Obituary for Walter Shoureck

Poughquag-Walter C. Shoureck a resident of Poughquag, NY for the 22 years, previously from Eastchester, NY passed away on March 22, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 96 years old.

Walter was born in Valhalla, NY on March 6, 1927, the son of Christopher and Dorothy (Adamek) Shoureck.

He proudly served in the United States Navy and went on to be a career Firefighter for the Eastchester Fire Department for 37 years.

On July 2, 1954, he married the love of his life Helen Jane (Collins) at the Concordia Lutheran Church in the Bronx. Helen passed away on October 5, 2020.

Walter and Helen used to spend their winters in Cape Coral, FL where he was part of the Moose Lodge and Elks Club. They would spend summers in Elizabethtown, NY in the Adirondacks where he enjoyed his surroundings in nature.

He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He was a painter and artist. He loved to speed skate, swim and loved the New York Yankees and the rest of the New York sports teams. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to bike ride and teaching them about the outdoors, he instilled a superb work ethic in his children that they live by today.

Walter is survived by his children: Nancy Graf of Poughquag, NY, Edward Shoureck of Highland, NY and Scott and Jean Francois Pilon of Newburgh, NY. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren: Robert Graf Jr., Zachary Graf, Emily Graf, Caitlin Shoureck and Meghan Shoureck, his great granddaughter Charlotte who he lovingly called Charlie, his grand-dog Harry and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Walter is pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law Ann Shoureck and 7 brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2pm-4pm at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc. 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A service along with military honors will be held at 3:30pm in the funeral home. Cremation and burial of cremains will be private.
