Obituary for Nancy Kuzma Haines

Nancy Kuzma Haines, 88, an area resident since 1969 and loving mother and grandmother, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 9, 2023. She previously lived in Clark Summit, PA.

Born on April 8, 1935 in Scranton, PA, Nancy was the daughter of the late Paul and Josephine (Yatchisin) Kuzma.

She grew up surrounded by love from her eleven sisters and brothers as the baby of the family.

In West Scranton High she was called The Class Sweetheart. Those that have met and known her can attest that being a sweetheart carried on through her life. She was genuinely loving and caring with the biggest heart. She always put others needs and wants before her own.

On August 4, 1956, in Scranton, Pennsylvania she married Fred A. Haines who predeceased her on January 23, 2016.

She was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie until her retirement. She then worked at the Heart Center in Poughkeepsie. The most fulfilling job she had was caring for her family and grandchildren. She found no greater sense of accomplishment than to see her family happy and together. Her grandchildren brought her so much joy, as she did for them. She taught them her love of baking, the value in being together as a family, and as she always said, to “Enjoy the now. N-O-W.”

She is survived by her cherished children Rebecca Macrillo (Philip), Frederick Haines (Christine, partner), and Judith Bartush (Thomas) all of Fishkill and Mark (Shiao-Lan) of Ridgefield; her adored grandchildren Megan Spaccarelli (Nicholas), Caitlin Turchioe (John), Marcus Macrillo, Samantha Macrillo, Kylie Clark (John), Leah Haines, Hannah Bartush, Charlotte Bartush, Emory Haines, and Ainsley Haines; her great grandchildren Mackenzie, Madison and Sloane Spaccarelli, Lincoln and Forrest Turchioe; and many beloved nieces and nephew.

Nancy was preceded in death by her four sisters (Mary Kuzma, Margaret Evanick, Stella Billen and infant Frances Kuzma), and seven brothers (John, Andy, Nick, Paul, Steve, Joe and Mike Kuzma.)

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 -7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
