Obituary for Larry R. DeResh

Beacon- Larry “Rock” DeResh, a resident of Beacon, NY passed away on May 14, 2023. He was 81 years old.

Rock was born on August 23, 1941, in Springfield, MA, the son of the late Joseph and Amanda De Roche.

He enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country as a Military Police Officer and earning a prestigious award for High Rifle Marksmanship. After serving in the Army, he returned to NY and first worked as a Police Officer in Bedford Police Department, then went on to Yorktown Police Department where he was the very first K9 Handler in Westchester County alongside his devoted, loving, partner K9 Fritz. After his time in Yorktown, Rock went on to be a U.S. Marshall until his retirement.

Rock was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, was a level A Mechanic and could fix anything. In 2007, he purchased a piece of land in Chenango County so he and his children and grandchildren could have a place to go and hunt and relax. He loved all animals and made sure the stray cats near home had a warm place to go in the winter, building them huts complete with running water.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Larry & Sue DeResh, Rick & Karen DeResh, Dori& Richard Pochintesta and Danielle and Baird Forma. Grandchildren: Kayla, Richard, Reneé, Anthony, Hailey, Taylor, Derek, Emily, Brennan, Olyvia and Colin. He is also survived by two sisters June Blada and Roselene DeResh and his significant other Anne Chapman.

He is predeceased by his sisters Leda and Lovena and a brother Stanley.
