Obituary for Virginia A Duonola (Modica)

FISHKILL - Virginia A. Duonola, a Dutchess County resident since 1981, formerly of Carmel and Brooklyn, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. She was 83.

Daughter of the late Giuseppe and Antonina (Santino) Modica, she was born in Brooklyn on November 28, 1939.

For many years, Virginia worked for Chase Manhattan Bank but fondly remembered her first job as a bookkeeper in the city. She retired as Head Teller from Chase in 2004. She was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill and enjoyed many hobbies such as shopping, playing bingo, cooking and watching movies. She was also a lifelong fan of her beloved Brooklyn Dodgers, but more than anything else, Virginia loved spending time with her family, especially cherished her granddaughters, Ashley and Ella.

On May 4, 1963, she married Robert Francis Duonola. She was predeceased by her husband on January 25, 2013.

Survivors include her daughter, Annette Casserly & her husband Brian of Wappingers Falls; her granddaughters, Ashley and Ella Casserly; her sister, Severina Sandre of Staten Island; her brother, Frank Modica of Queens; and her many special nieces & nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 29 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
