Obituary for Grace M. Garbellano (Letteri)

Beacon – Grace M. Garbellano, a resident of Beacon since 1951, died peacefully at home on June 5, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old.

Grace was born on October 9, 1930 in Peekskill, NY to Vincent and Mary (Chindamo) Letteri. On May 15, 1949, she married the love of her life, Rocco “Rocky” Garbellano. Rocky predeceased her in 2020. Grace was an admiral businesswoman and together worked alongside her husband as local entrepreneurs. In 1952, they opened Rocky’s Deli in Beacon. After 15 years, they decided to close the deli so that Grace could follow her true passion. Her love for sewing was apparent. In 1967, Lady Gray Dress Shoppe emerged on Main Street in Beacon. As the business continued to grow and thrive, it became Lady Gray Bridal. Grace was an incredible seamstress, and she took unbelievable pride in fitting each Lady Gray Bride to perfection. She shared her passion for her business and sewing with her daughter, Tina, as Lady Gray Bridal recently celebrated their 55th year in business.

As important as her business was to her, nothing compared to her family. Her family was everything. Sunday was family time! She loved making her famous lemon ice for her grandchildren and to them nothing was better than Nons lemon ice! They would spend their summer Sunday’s swimming in her pool, and she cherished her time with them. In addition to her famous lemon ice, she loved to cook and bake and was known for her delicious cream puff. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. Grace was a remarkable woman, who taught by her actions the importance of love and family, compassion and caring. She truly was “Lady Gray” to all who knew and loved her.

Grace is survived by her children, Rocco Garbellano and his wife, Debbie of Poughkeepsie and Tina Pomarico and her husband, Michael of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Michael Vincent Pomarico and his wife Ginny of Mint Hill, NC, Vincent Rocco Garbellano, Dominick Savino Garbellano and his wife, Elissa, Danielle Grace Pomarico of Midland, NC and Christopher Michael Garbellano and his wife, Ashley; her great-grandchildren, Michael Vincent Pomarico, Jr., Dominick Savino Garbellano II, Savino Anthony Garbellano and Cole Michael Pomarico; as well as many other loving nieces & nephews.
