Obituary for James Joseph "Big Jim" Magill Sr.

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – James Joseph Magill, Sr., 83, an area resident since 1986 and former Yonkers resident died peacefully on June 8, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Yonkers on May 4, 1940, James was the son of the late Charles and Kathleen (Lipsett) Magill. James was predeceased by his siblings Mary Magill, Charles Magill, and Kathleen Magill. He was employed by Anaconda and then the City of Yonkers until retirement. An avid fan of sports, he enjoyed playing basketball and watching the Yankees.

On February 24, 1958 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Yonkers, he married Rosemary (Ferrucci) Magill who survives at home after 65 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Maryanne Magill of Yonkers, James J. Magill, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, and Linda Allen and her husband Michael of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Michelle Torchia and her husband Nicholas, James N. Magill, and Nicole Allen; his great-grandsons, Peyton and Riley Torchia; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Dorothy Ferrucci and Robert and Eileen Ferrucci; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Big Jim was love by all.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 11th from 2 – 6 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday June 12 at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
