Obituary for Donald E. "Dan" Sullivan

BEEKMAN – Donald E. Sullivan, Sr., 79, an area resident since 1974 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on November 27, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Born in the Bronx on July 24, 1944, he was the son of Stephen and Nora (O’Connor) Sullivan. Don, or Dan as he was known to his family, proudly served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had been employed as an oil burner mechanic and retired from Burke Fuel in Hawthorne after 30 years.

Dan enjoyed spending time outside, especially boating on the Hudson River. He also enjoyed reading, playing solitaire and watching Jeopardy, but more than anything, he loved being with his grandchildren. He loved watching and supporting his grandchildren as they participated in all their sports, dance recitals, and musical concerts.

On March 16, 1968 in the Bronx, Dan married the love of his life, Candace Burns, who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Stacie Sullivan and her husband Richard Caragine, and Donald Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Joanna; and his grandchildren, Julia and Emma Gero, and Lily and Carson Sullivan. Dan is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, who he considered his sisters and brother. Dan is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Dan was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Sullivan.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
