Adolf F. Priebe, 90, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1961 and formerly of Germany, died on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
Born in Gross Pravtshagen, Germany on December 25, 1922, he was the son of Heinrich and Caroline Brandt Priebe. Adolf served in the German Army during World War II and was a Prisoner of War in the United States. He was the owner and operator of Adolf F. Priebe Home Improvement for 33 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fishkill, the Germania Club of Poughkeepsie, and the German Club of Port St. Lucie. A talented craftsman, he was hardworking, has a great sense of humor, was a gourmet cook in his later years, enjoyed traveling and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything. He enjoyed spending his winters in Port St. Lucie, FL.
On September 21, 1948 in Grevesmuehlen, Germany, Adolf married Ina-Marie Elvers who predeceased him on June 20, 2003. He is survived by his children, Kristiane Stelmack and her husband Robert of Owego, Ursula Priebe of Middletown and Hans Priebe and his wife Leslie of LaGrangeville; his grandchildren, Denise and Brian Gottschalk, Carey and Brian Fahrbach, Rachel Priebe and Ryan Priebe; his great-grandchildren, Leah and Evan Gottschalk, Riley and Bryn Fahrbach; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbel and Hans Muehlenhaupt in Germany; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his beloved dogs, Chloe and Bessie.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 12pm at the funeral home with Rev. John Young officiating.
