Agnes A. Thornton, 89, a 10 year resident of Fishkill, formerly of Queens, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.
Born in Queens on March 31, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Hortence Wacker Schoppner. Agnes was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Richard T. Thornton, on November 3, 2009.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Thornton & Marlene McWade of Middle Village, Queens; her daughter, Patricia Flynn & her husband John of Derry, NH; her daughter, Arlene McKenna & her husband Patrick of Alexandria, VA; her daughter, Kathleen Iannicelli & her husband Vinny of Massapequa; her son, Patrick Thornton & his wife Stephanie of New Hyde Park; her daughter, Susan Giordano & her husband Dominic of Fishkill; her grandchildren, Rusty & Stacy Hall of Fairfax, VA, Randi & John Cannard of Burke, VA, Kera & Craig Wise of Alexandria, VA, John & Richard MacGregor of Durango, CO, Jillian Iannicelli of Hoboken, NJ, Joseph Iannicelli of Massapequa, Richard, Frank & Michael Thornton of New Hyde Park, and Kristin, Erin, Anthony & Brian Giordano of Fishkill; her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew, William and Kate.
Agnes was also predeceased by her infant son Richard in 1954.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 on Friday at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson St., Fishkill. Entombment will be in the Community Mausoleum at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
In memory of Agnes, her family members request that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the charity of one's choice.
