Obituary

Beacon- Albert Califano Jr. a resident of Beacon, NY passed away on March 14, 2022. He was 84.

Albert was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 7, 1937 the son of Albert Sr. and Tecla (Acquaviva) Califano.

At the age of 18, Albert proudly enlisted in the US army and served his country loyally and faithfully, stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. Soon after returning home, Albert met his wife, best friend and lifelong partner, Terry. They were Married on October 8th, 1961.

After moving upstate to Beacon, NY and with his entrepreneurial mind, Albert and his Brother-in-law Vito opened their first auto service center. Eventually moving onto his own, Albert continued to grow his business, owning and operating multiple locations. With his success allowing him an early retirement from auto service, Albert continued his business ventures and joined his wife Terry in owning and operating multiple retail locations in the former Duchess Mall, Fishkill.

A 44-year life member and Past Commodore of Chelsea Yacht Club, "Al" was an avid Hudson River sailor. His sailboat racing skills were second to none, earning him countless victories with many achieved while racing single handedly on his boat, "Personal day". Al was also a very active member in the club throughout the years fulfilling multiple volunteer positions. As the Rear Commodore of Hauling and Storage, Al spearheaded the development and construction of the clubs hauling and storage facility, operations procedures and financial system. As a show of gratitude and appreciation, the clubs travelift was affectionately named "Big Al".

A dedicated family man, Albert loved spending time with family and friends. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he instilled laughter and good times on everyone he knew. As a trusted confidant, Albert could always be counted on for a fair and honest outlook during the most difficult circumstances. His caring, attention and direction are held by many as being instrumental in the successes of their lives.

In addition to his wife Victoria "Terry", Albert is survived by two sons, Mark and his wife Joanne Califano of Mukilteo, WA, and William Califano of High Falls, NY. His dear grandchildren Lauren, Marissa, Sara, Hannah, Thomas and Jayden; two sisters Carol Ann Lynch and Dolores Weinberg and her husband Michael as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Albert is predeceased by his parents and sisters Ann, Theresa, and Barbara.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on May 14, 2022 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson St. Fishkill, NY. Interment of ashes to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chelsea Yacht Club youth sailing program.
