FISHKILL - Albert C. Weir, Jr., a local area resident for 60 years and formerly of Yonkers, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was 86. Son of the late Albert C. Weir, Sr. and Dorothy (Madden) Weir, he was born in Yonkers on February 9, 1937. In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged from active service as Sergeant in 1958 and continued as a Reservist until 1962. Albert worked as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for several years and then became a designer for I.B.M. at the company's East Fishkill location until his retirement in 1993. He then took on a "post-retirement" job as a courier for CareMount Medical Group, where he continued working until 2022. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He dedicated 50 years as a coach, mentor, and volunteer for CYO Basketball, AAU Basketball, and Wappinger Softball. In 2006, he was inducted into the Dutchess Sports Museum Hall of Fame. In 1982, he married Katherine A. Weaver in Fishkill, NY. Cathy survives at home in Fishkill. Additional survivors include his daughter, Diane Jacobsen & her husband Jake of Stone Ridge, NY; his daughter, Laura Weir & her partner Joe Hanley of Clinton Corners, NY; his stepson, Thomas Newman & his wife Jennifer of Somers, NY; his stepson, Tim Newman & his wife Alana of Fishkill, NY; his son-in-law, Dave Walker of Wappingers Falls, NY; his grandchildren: Kristen Wertz & her husband Tom, Kara Jacobsen, Erik Jacobsen, Michelle Zegle & her husband Keith, Heather Hanley, Taylor Walker, Alexa Walker, Cassidy Newman, Tommy Newman, Cooper Newman, Danny Newman, and Orla Newman; his great-grandchildren: Olivia, Oliver, Odessa, and Kaia; his sister, Elaine Walsh & her husband Frank; as well as several nephews, and many other loving relatives & friends. Albert was predeceased by his parents as well as his son, Michael Weir; and his daughter, Kathleen Walker. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
