Albertina Fragoso's Obituary
Albertina Vaz Fragoso, a local area resident since 1982 and formerly of Yonkers and Portugal, died at home on August 12, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was 87.
Daughter of the late Antonio D'Ascenҫão and Teresa Serafin Vaz, she was born in Rapa, Celorico da Beira, Portugal on November 21, 1936.
On July 9, 1955, she married Luciano Fragoso in Guarda, Portugal. In accordance with her husband's service in the Portuguese Armed Forces, Albertina lived for some time in Boame, Mozambique, where she worked for A Mundial Insurance Company.
She emigrated to the United States in 1967 and resided in Yonkers, where she worked as a Secretary in the Medical Records Department at Yonkers General Hospital. Albertina spoke several languages, and she frequently served as an interpreter for many patients. In 1982, she relocated to the Hudson Valley, where she had resided in Wappingers Falls and Fishkill. She worked for several years at I.B.M. in East Fishkill.
Albertina was a member of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and formerly of Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers. She enjoyed creative writing and was especially fond of poetry. Her other hobbies included tennis, bowling, biking, walking, cooking, and cleaning. She was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Benfica, a Portuguese soccer team.
Survivors include her husband, Luciano Fragoso, at home in Fishkill, NY; her son, Carlos A. Vaz Fragoso & his wife Jolanta Stec Fragoso of Newtown,CT; her grandchildren, Christopher Fragoso of Newtown, CT, Anthony Fragoso of Lebanon, NH, and Katherine Fragoso of Los Angeles, CA; her sisters, Elvira Vaz Ascenҫão, Encarnaҫão Guerra, and Elene Medeiros; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
Albertina was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, José Luis Ascenҫão.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday August 21, 2024 at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Columba Church.
