YORKTOWN HEIGHTS – Alfred "Al" Francis Messia de Prado Esq., a Yorktown resident since 1971, formerly of Yonkers and New York City, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. He was 85.
Son of the late Marie C. (Mayer) de Prado and Alfred M. de Prado, Alfred was born in Manhattan on September 20, 1934. A graduate of New York University School of Law, Al went on to open his own successful private law practice in 1975. He continued to work with his wife Gloria at this fixture of Yorktown Heights, where he also lived, and was a pillar of the community, until his death.
Al was a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Yorktown. He was also an active member of the community, and belonged to several nonprofit service organizations including the Yorktown Rotary Club (3 times Past President), Yorktown Elks Lodge (Past Exalted Ruler & Life Member), Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (Past President), and Yorktown Exchange Club (Past President).
Additionally, Al was a member of many professional associations such as the US Selective Service Board of Appeals (Former Chair), Yorktown Bar Association (9 year consecutive Past President), New York County Lawyers Association, and Westchester County Bar Association.
On September 13, 1962, he married A. Gloria Rome in Brooklyn. They were happily married for over 57 years.
Al is survived by his wife Gloria, his 4 children and their spouses, and 9 grandchildren: his son Carl Messia de Prado and his wife Sophia of Cortlandt Manor; his son Christopher Messia de Prado and his wife Lynnette of Elmhurst; his son Paul Messia de Prado of East Meadow; his daughter Roxanne Lubbers and her husband Sean of Pleasant Valley; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Benjamin de Prado; Matthew, Michael and Mark de Prado; Angelica de Prado; Claire and Finn Breton, and Zelda Lubbers, and many other loving relatives & friends.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, and his older sisters, Lola Griggs (2017) and Rosemary Kowalski (2010).
