Alfred A. Couto, Sr., a resident of Fishkill for 10 years and formerly of Yonkers, died on Friday, May 25th, 2012 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. He was 78.
Son of the late Joseph and Mary Pimpmental Couto, he was born in Yonkers on March 26, 1934. Alfred enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He worked in the construction industry for 20 years, and was then employed by the Municipal Housing Authority in Yonkers for 16 years, retiring in 1996. Alfred was a member of the Full Gospel Family Life Center in Lagrangeville. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On October 26, 1957, he married Carol Hughes at St. Joseph’s Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Couto survives at home.
Alfred is also survived by three daughters, Cathy Villara & her husband Carl of Mahopac, Diane Spiak-Pisanelli & her husband Jerry of Beacon, and Maryann Pascucci & her husband Richard of Florida; two sons, Alfred Couto, Jr. & his wife Marianne of Hopewell Junction and John Couto & his wife Desiree of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren, Paul & Teresa Villara, Carolann Villara, Nicholas & Kristin Spiak, Jennifer Spiak, Kristen Spiak, Stephanie Pascucci, Michael Couto, Melissa Couto, Joseph Couto, Robert Couto, John Couto, Jr., Gabriella Couto and Brandon Couto; his great-grandchildren, Diannalisa, Giadonna, Olivia and Noah; his sisters, Alice Hansson of Mahopac, Eva Annunziato of Yonkers, and Delia Cincardi & her husband Nick of Florida; his sister-in-law, Fran Couto of Shrub Oak; and his adopted daughter, Juliana Freitas of Mt. Vernon; also many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
He was predeceased by his great-grandson, Dominick Villara, in 2009; and his two brothers, Joe and Artie Couto, who both passed away within the last year.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29th at the Full Gospel Family Life Center, 1138 Route 55, Lagrangeville. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30th at the church with Pastor Rick Leonardi officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson.
