Little River, SC – Alice Rose Kelleher, a resident of Little River, SC, formerly of Fishkill, NY and Millbrook, NY passed away on August 12, 2023. She was 89 years old.
Alice was born in Peekskill, NY on January 16, 1934, the daughter of Peter and Sylvia (Steingardt) Rottenberg. She was the third and youngest child of Peter and Sylvia.
She grew up in an area known as Mohegan Colony, a close-knit community. Her favorite childhood memories were hanging out at the lake in her community and helping her father candling eggs for his business.
Alice attended Shrub Oak Elementary School and graduated from Peekskill High School in 1950. She then went on to further her education at SUNY Buffalo to study childhood education from 1950-1952 and transferred to NYU from 1952-1954 where she received her bachelor's degree.
Alice met her future husband Joseph at Sprout Lake, and they married on August 27, 1956. Joseph passed away in 2003.
Alice loved her family and loved being surrounded by them and doing family activities together. She also enjoyed bowling at Southern Dutchess Bowl for many years and Fishkill Bowl. Alice also loved singing, dancing, walking, and, most of all, enjoying her time with her grandchildren.
She belonged to the Evergreen Chapter of Sweet Adelines, and in later years, she joined a walking club that took her to many local areas.
Alice is survived by her daughters: Debra Jo Petersen and her husband Larry, Sharon Lee Gallagher, and her husband Robert; grandchildren: Lawrence and his wife Andrea Petersen, Brandon Petersen, Megan Petersen, Stacey Gallagher and her husband Nick Kaminski and Kevin Gallagher. Alice recently became the great-grandmother to Monroe Rose Petersen, and is also survived by her sister-in-law Catherine Brown and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice is predeceased by her brother Simon Rothenberg and sister Miriam Proctor and sister-in-law Alice Napier.
Calling hours will be at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 2pm-5pm. A graveside service will be at Fishkill Rural Cemetery on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10am.
