Allen D. Owen, 82, died on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Huntington on September 5, 1931, he was the son of Allen E. and Jane Tetrault Owen. Allen proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was employed as a Corrections Officer for the State of New York at Green Haven Correctional Facility for 38 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and a life member of the Whortlekill Rod & Gun Club. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On October 11, 1958 in Brentwood, Allen married Dorothy A. Dimmitt who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Arlene Owen of Wappingers Falls, Dawn Montfort and her husband David of Wappingers Falls, William Owen and his wife Stacey of Pleasant Valley, and Shawn Owen of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, CPL Adam Montfort (USMC), PFC Daniel Montfort (US Army), Corey Owen, Trevor Owen and Rachel Owen; his sister, Sandra Eaton of Portsmouth, VA; and his extended family member, Alfred Rabasco of LaGrange. He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Allen Rodriguez in 1990.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with full military honors.
