Alma M. McCaffery, 101, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1955 and formerly of Peekskill, died peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at her home.

Born in the Bronx on July 24, 1909, she was the daughter of Laurence and Mary Dowling Hildebrandt. Alma was employed as a telephone operator for AT&T in Peekskill. She was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church, East Fishkill Historical Society, Wednesday Club and Garden Club and was a volunteer for the Health Care Clinic.

Alma was predeceased by her husband, David E. McCaffery, on February 2, 1988. She is survived by her children, Rita Milizia and her husband Joseph of Florence, SC, David F. McCaffery and his wife Karen of South Weymouth, MA, George McCaffery and his wife Jean of Chester, Edward McCaffery and his fiance Nancy Bareford of Hopewell Junction and Paul McCaffery and his wife Carol of Pleasant Valley; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great, great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Laurence Hildebrandt and her sisters, Ruth Dwyer and Rita Landsman.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
