Obituary

BEEKMAN – Andrew D. Broad, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother and an area resident since 2001, died on October 22, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in Kent, England on December 3, 1959, he was the son of the late Donald and Janet (Robinson) Broad and was married to
the love of his life, Margaret (Episcopia) for 41 years.

Andrew proudly attained U.S. citizenship as an adult, and became a true patriot, with an abiding love for his adopted country. He worked for decades as the Parts Manager at Toyota North (now Rivera Toyota) in Mount Kisco, and won several employee awards for his dedication to his job and his outstanding work during his long tenure there.

An avid sports fan, Andrew coached tee-ball, Little League baseball, and soccer for his son's teams, and was a passionate follower of the New York Mets and New York Jets. He also enjoyed watching the Yankees, and was thrilled to have had the chance to meet Yankees' Hall-of-Famer Mariano Rivera. Even during his illness, he found a special sense of joy in rooting for his teams, and a big win always brought him an equally large smile. Never one to sit still for long, Andrew always enjoyed tinkering and was the epitome of "Mr. Fix-it." Indeed, if he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed.

Andrew loved the outdoors and enjoyed nature. He loved long walks on woodland trails and along the seashore at Cape Cod on vacation. He was an avid fisherman and always loved tending to the vegetables in his garden. He always seemed most at peace when he was connected to nature. He also was an animal lover!

Andrew's family and many friends will long remember his ready smile, sincere sense of caring, and his willingness always to lend a hand to those who needed one. He dearly loved his wife and was a devoted family man. For all of his many attributes, his heart was surely his greatest and was most evident to all those who knew him. Kindness was always his priority.

Andrew was baptized at Beth Israel Church in New Jersey. He was a member of the Beekman Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Margaret, Andrew is also survived by his children, Kaylee and Christopher, and possibly David; his grandchildren, Carson and Oliver; his siblings, Matthew, John and Lena; his mother-in-law, Katherine Cocozza; and several nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to the birth of his third grandson in January.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1-2pm at the Beekman Baptist Church, 1068 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service at 2pm.
