Obituary

Over a century ago, in New York City on November 11th in the year 1921, Ann DiCicco was born.

She was the daughter of Amedeo and Gabriela Spoldi, and the oldest of her siblings, Rose and Henry, all of whom she loved very much. In 1927, she moved with her family to Seymour Avenue in the Bronx, where she graduated from the Jane Adams Vocational School and worked in the garment industry.

In 1950, she married Attilio DiCicco and together they started a family. Their son, Oliver, was born in 1951, and their daughter, Annamaria, was born in 1954. In 1965, the family relocated to Eastchester, New York. Attilio and Ann had a loving marriage and were together until Attilio's death in 1985.

Ann was an incredible woman, extremely generous with her time and talents. A professional seamstress, she was always making or mending garments for friends and family. She was a member of the Veronica Guild and often volunteered at the bread table for the Immaculate Heart of Mary church and as an aide at White Plains Hospital. In her eighties, she helped care for a neighbor who was 100 years old.

Her cooking and baking skills were unmatched; her manicotti was not to be missed. She was an avid gardener and much of what she grew ended up in her meals.

More than anything, she loved her family. She had grown up in a tight-knit community and always wanted family to be close. She doted on her nieces Gabrielle, Andrea, and Christine, as well as her nephew Henry Jr. She was very close to her grandsons Gregory and Garrett Candrea and was very proud of the young men they became.

She was extremely religious and had a strong faith in God. She prayed that when her time came, she would be reunited with her beloved family.

She is survived by her son Oliver; her daughter Annamaria and her husband Glenn; her grandsons Gregory and his wife Alex, Garrett and his wife Emily; her nieces Gabrielle Zale, Andrea Stewart, and Christine Haney.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Saint Jude Children's Hospital at stjude.org.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 3 at 11:30 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary church, 8 Carman Rd., Scarsdale, NY 10583. 914-723-0276. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery, 10 west Steven's Av., Hawthorne, NY 10532.
