Anita C. Mangarillo, 80, passed away on Sunday morning, March 6, 2016 at Albany Medical Center.
Anita was born on June 19, 1935. The eldest daughter of Anthony and Sofia (Tuccitto) Caruso, she grew up in the Bronx & graduated from Evander Childs High School and was active at Nativity of our Blessed Lady in the Bronx, where she sang in the choir. On June 26, 1955, she married the love of her life, John L. Mangarillo, Sr. who predeceased her in 1991. Anita was also predeceased by her sons, Anthony J. Mangarillo in 1987 and John L. Mangarillo, Jr. in 2004, and her sisters, Carolann and Norma.
She was a parishioner at the Church of St. Mary's, where she was an active choir member. She was a former member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club.
Anita is survived by a sister, Janet (Joseph) Fernandez; her children, Valerie (Richard) Finning, Jo Ann (Robert) Olker, Cynthia (Robert) Burchfield, and Antony (Lan) Tabtong; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Mangarillo; 9 grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Andrew, Jennelle, Robbie, Zachariah, Chelsea, Rebecca, and Christopher; 9 great grandchildren, Timothy, John, Andrew, Daniel, Channing, Abigail, Charley and Corbett, and Chris, Jr.; and many cousins, nieces, & nephews.
Anita was the quintessential example of the word: "Mother", love and kindness were part of her being. She was known for her love of children, as she cared for and mothered many foster children and neighborhood children. Known as Aunt Anita, she was loved by all who knew her for her strength and compassion.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 1pm at the Church of St. Mary, 11 Clinton St., Wappingers Falls followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
