Anita F. Schauer

Anita Schauer, an area resident for the past 30 years, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 101 years old.

Born on May 21, 1925, in Boston, Massachusetts, Anita was the daughter of the late William and Viola (Nickerson) Swim. At the age of five, her family moved to Nova Scotia, where she was raised and educated before later settling on Long Island, New York. It was there that she met the love of her life, Berthold Schauer. The couple shared 74 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2020.

Anita was employed by Sears Corporation in Hicksville, New York, where she worked in the teletyping department for many years.

A talented and creative woman, Anita enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, beading, jewelry making, and a variety of other crafts. She also loved spending time on the golf course with Berthold and was a familiar face at the East Fishkill Senior Center, where she enjoyed the friendship and companionship of many fellow members.

Anita is survived by her loving daughter, Eileen Poole and her husband, Wayne; her cherished grandchildren, Heather Goldfarb and her husband, Steve, Justin Poole and his wife, Lydia; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Isabella, Mason, Josephine, and Evan.

In addition to her beloved husband, Berthold, Anita was predeceased by her daughter, Gail Gardner and son in law Robert Gardner.

Family and friends may call on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by interment at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, 500 Port Washington Boulevard, Port Washington, NY 11050.
