Anita Ruth Tompkins, 65, a resident of Dutchess County since 1974 and formerly of the Bronx, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 27, 2012 at her home.

Born in the Bronx on April 6, 1947, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Lillian Erickson Tompkins. Anita was employed by New York State for 30 years as a Developmental Assistant for Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services until her retirement in 2009.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Karlson and her husband Karl of Ithaca and Chance Gibbs and his partner, Linda Riess of Hopewell Junction; her loving brother who was always there for her, Robert Tompkins and his wife Cindy of Pleasant Valley; her sisters, Pat Sunkel and her husband John of West Palm Beach, FL, Lois DeBlasio of West Hampton and Gail Boyle and her husband Dennis of Middleburgh; her grandchildren, James, Katrina, Sara, Joshua, Louis, Sean, Nicole and Jacqui; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Janet Wallace.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10am at the Funeral Home followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
