WAPPINGERS FALLS - Ann Marie Salvato, 62, passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 30, 2025. An area resident since 1987, she previously lived in Mahopac.
Born on September 21, 1963, in the Bronx, Ann Marie was the daughter of the late Martin and Katherine (Klemstein) Puchalski. Earlier in her career, Ann Marie was employed by Guidepost and Grenier, where she met the love of her life. She later devoted more than 20 years of service to the Wappingers Central School District. As a lunch monitor at Gayhead Elementary School and Brinkerhoff Elementary School, she cherished every student she cared for and was lovingly known to them as "Mrs. S."
Ann Marie was a parishioner at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, where she had taught Religious Education and was an influential part of the Summer Joy Program.
On October 27, 1984, at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Carmel, Ann Marie married Vincent Salvato, who survives at home after 41 years of marriage. She is also survived by her daughter, Arianna Sutherland, and her husband Joshua; her siblings, Mary Walsh and her husband Ron, Michael Puchalski, Martin Puchalski and his wife Jeromina, Kathy Doherty, Joan Rojas and her husband Andres, and Dan Puchalski; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ann Marie was also predeceased by her son, Lawrence Salvato, and her brother James Puchalski.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 11:30 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Ann Marie will be buried at St. Denis Cemetery.
