Ann Meany
Scott
August 1, 1940 – September 1, 2024
Wappingers Falls- Ann Meany Scott "Aunt Ann," entered eternal rest on September 1, 2024, at New York Presbyterian- Hudson Valley Hospital. She was 84 years old. Her sparkling smile, joyous spirit, and infectious laugh will be greatly missed.
Ann was born on August 1, 1940, in her beloved borough of Brooklyn, NY. She was the third child of six born to the late John and Monica (La Combe) Meany. Growing up in Park Slope, Ann developed deep friendships and created memories that would last a lifetime.
She attended St. Saviour's High School and later became very involved in the Alumnae Association. Her Catholic education was very meaningful to her and helped form the foundation of her faith.
Ann was a Girl Scout in her mother's troop, which inspired her to become a scout leader herself for many years.
As a young adult, Ann socialized in O'Connor's, where she met the love of her life, Tom Scott ("Scotty"). Their 22-year courtship culminated in 1982, when they married. The romance continued until Scotty's passing in March of 2000.
They were the consummate hosts, making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Wherever they lived, theirs was the party house. Whether it was fireworks on New Year's Eve in Brooklyn or summer barbecues in Dutchess County, Ann and Scotty's was the place to be.
Aunt Ann and Scotty had no children of their own, but were a fixture at all of the recitals, plays, pageants, games, matches, bouts, and award ceremonies of their nieces and nephews and, later, their grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Beyond mere family obligation, they were enthusiastic supporters of all artistic and athletic endeavors.
Ann worked for many years as a registered dietician at the Bowery Savings Bank, where she learned to make the world's best egg nog, Irish soda bread, applesauce, and deviled eggs. When the bank cut back its commissary services, Ann pivoted and developed a career in marketing, which introduced her to Joe DiMaggio. After retiring from the bank, Ann began a third career in the ticketing department at Carnegie Hall.
A fire-breathing Giants fan, Aunt Ann was a season ticket holder all the way back to the Polo Grounds. Together, Aunt Ann and Scotty attended the 26 Super Bowls and got to see their Giants victorious at the Rose Bowl and again at Tampa Stadium.
For the past 25 years, Ann has been a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, where she also attended the Tuesday Bible study. Ann created a whole new set of deep and meaningful friendships with her fellow parishioners.
Ann is survived by her siblings: Louis K. Meany and his wife Grace, Elizabeth H. Baker, John J. Meany and his wife Anne, and Thomas W. Meany and his wife Pat. In addition to her siblings, Ann is survived by 20 nieces and nephews and 35 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
In addition to her parents and Scotty, Ann was predeceased by her brother Paul Meany, sisters-in-law Charlene Bauer Meany and Loretta Scott, and brothers-in-law Jack Scott, Joe Scott, and Paddy Baker.
