Anne Thorn's Obituary
FISHKILL – Anne T. Thorn, 87, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully on December 31, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence.
Born in Beacon on August 8, 1933, Anne was the daughter of the late Bernard “Ben” and Anne (Cunningham) Soroghan. Anne was a Registered Nurse who retired from career-long employment with NYS Department of Corrections. She ended her career as a nursing supervisor at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center.
A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church where she was a member of their Women’s Club and was active with the seniors group. She was a Past Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Liberatta and was a proud member of the Third Order of St. Dominic. She was also a member of the Mount Saint Mary Academy Alumni Association and the St. Francis School of Nursing Alumni Association.
Anne is survived by her two daughters, who lovingly cared for her during her illness, Gerrianne (Mike) Ejercito of Highland and Lisa (Dennis) Ellis of Marlboro. She was also a devoted Nanny to Michelle (Dan) Riemer, Sarah (Erik) Sherar and Dennis Ellis, II and a Great-grandmother to John Michael and Emily Guarino and Lucy Sherar. She will also be missed by her friends at the Regency where she enjoyed participating in various activities. In addition to her parents, Anne was also predeceased by her infant brother, Richard.
The family would like to thank those at the infusion center at CareMount Medical in Fishkill, as well as the dedicated staff at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, for their care and compassion.
Due to current COVID restrictions, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church followed by burial at St. Joachim Cemetery in Beacon. Donations may be made in Anne’s memory to St. John the Evangelist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc.
