Obituary

Anthony Charles Pocchia, 79, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born on July 26, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Antonio and Philomena (Maiello) Pocchia.

A resident of Wappingers Falls, NY, for the last several years, he had previously lived in several locations including Hopewell Junction, Stormville, Mahopac, and Brooklyn, creating lasting memories wherever he went. Anthony spent over 60 years as a skilled plumber, owning and operating Pocchia Plumbing, serving his community with pride and dedication.

When Anthony wasn't working or spending time with his children and grandchildren, he found peace in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and was an avid shark fisherman. He was also a man with no shortage of stories, particularly fishing stories and anyone who knew him likely heard more than a few. Anthony was known for his strength, resilience, and determination. He often reminded those around him, "tough times don't last, tough people do." Those words were a reflection of the way he lived his life and the strength he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Anthony's greatest legacy cannot be measured by what he owned or accomplished. It lives in his children and grandchildren, in the lessons he taught them, the stories they'll continue telling, and in the certainty, they always had that no matter what happened in life, Dad would answer the phone. He lived for his children. They were what mattered most to him. And to them, he will always be the strongest man in the world.

Anthony is survived by his loving children: his son Anthony (Samantha) Pocchia of Kingston, TN, his daughters Nicole Pocchia of Putnam Valley, NY, and Isabella Pocchia of Knoxville, TN. He adored his grandchildren, Giovanni, Saylor, Piper, and Colter, who brought great joy to his life. His siblings Phillip (Dawn) Pocchia of Shirley, NY, and Antoinette Basuino of Holbrook, NY, as well as his beloved friend Paul (Terri) Iacuone of Mahopac, NY. In addition to his parents, Anthony was also predeceased by his siblings Carmine Pocchia and Grace Ann Simone, and his brother-in-law Anthony Basuino.

There will be no public services at this time. The family will honor Anthony's memory in their own private way, cherishing the memories they shared with him and celebrating the life he lived and the love he gave to those around him.
