Arlene
Cohn
August 7, 1946 – May 11, 2025
Arlene Paula Cohn, a local area resident since 1979, formerly of the Bronx, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was 78.
Daughter of the late Paul and Jean (Scarantino) Nocella, she was born in East Harlem, New York on August 7, 1946. When she was just five years old, Arlene's father passed away. She was raised by a strong and courageous single mother alongside her two older sisters, Rose and Nanette. They did not have much but all they needed was the love they shared.
Arlene was an avid reader of mystery novels. She enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean and making trips to any casino, especially Atlantic City, with her husband and friends. She was an amazing cook who reveled in entertaining family and friends with her delicious Italian cooking. You never left her house hungry.
More than anything else, Arlene cherished her family. She considered her seven grandchildren to be the loves of her life. She treasured babysitting them, especially having three of them so close in age ("The Triplets"). She was so proud of their many achievements and had a special bond with each one.
On July 29, 1967, Arlene married her childhood sweetheart, Harold P. Cohn, in East Harlem, New York. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year. Harold survives at home in Beacon, New York.
Additional survivors include her daughter, Laurie Colantuono and her husband Mario of Pleasant Valley; her daughter, Lisa Simmons and her husband Jeffrey of LaGrange; her son, Paul Cohn of Beacon; her grandchildren: Vincent and Franco Colantuono; Miranda, Dylan, and Evan Simmons; and Paul and Grace Cohn; her sister-in-law, Sandra Saponaro; her daughter-in-law, Nicole Cohn; her niece, Dorie Lobo & her husband Gio; her great-nephews, Alex, Casey, and Matthew Lobo; and many other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her two sisters, Rose Cappiello and Nanette Towne, whom she never got over losing; as well as her three brothers-in-law Richie Cappiello, Bill Towne, and John Saponaro.
