Arthur J. Odell, 86, of Poughquag, New York, passed away on January 6, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
Art was born on December 6, 1935, to Arthur and Ophelia Odell. He was raised in Nepera Park, Yonkers, New York with his brother, Eugene. He attended Saunders High School and went on to study English at Columbia University. He was a member of the IBEW Local 3 Electrical Union, White Plains, NY, before wanderlust overtook him and his adventures began.
Over the next twenty- five years Art would travel to 67 countries and all fifty states, writing of his experiences as he went. Art often said that he had lived two full lifetimes, and in 1979, at the age of 43, he met his wife, Regina. They were married in Hawaii in 1985 before returning to New York to raise their three children: Caroline, Catherine and MacArthur. Arthur was an avid writer and athlete. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure and optimism, and a determination to seize each day and each opportunity that presented itself.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents and by his beloved brother, Eugene. He leaves behind his wife, Regina (Wisker) Odell, his daughters Caroline (John) Chamberlin, Catherine (Sean) Booth, son MacArthur and six grandchildren.
Arthur often told us in his last years that there was no sadness in an old man dying who had truly lived, and indeed he did.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday January 10, 2022, at 10am at St. Denis Church 602 Beekman Road. Interment to follow at Clove Cemetery.
