Arthur A. Whelan, 98, a local area resident since 1994, formerly of the Bronx, died at home on Saturday, November 28, 2009.
For over 50 years, Arthur was a member of the Local 32B Building Workers Union, and for many years he was employed at the Chrysler Building in Manhattan. He was an avid musician and in the late 1940s he was the piano player for The Blue Notes.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on September 3, 1911, he was the son of the late John and Ellen Packingham Whelan. On July 14, 1937, he married Albertina Fells. Mrs. Whelan predeceased him in 1984.
Arthur is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Giuliano & her husband Cosmo of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Dee Monti & her husband Sal of Hopewell Junction, Ron Daly & his wife Virginia of Wallkill, Sandy Doyle & her husband Greg of Poughquag, and Doug Daly & his wife Barbara of Deer Park, Long Island; his great-grandchildren, Nick, Kaitlin, Ronny, Christian, Erica, Brianna, and Christopher; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lynne Martucci, sister, Elizabeth Whelan, and his brother, Edward Whelan.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Blessed Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville. Entombment will take place at the convenience of the family at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale.
