It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Babu Rao Mandava of Lagrangeville, NY on December 30th, 2015. Babu was born May 15, 1935 in the village of Movva, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India. In 1964, he immigrated to the United States to pursue a higher education. While in the USA, he earned three Masters Degrees, including Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from New York University and Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont. He worked at IBM from 1968 to 1986 and subsequently founded Indotronix International Corporation (IIC), an IT company headquartered in Poughkeepsie, NY, with multiple offices across the USA and India. As President and CEO, Babu grew IIC into one of the largest private employers in Dutchess County. Throughout his professional career, Babu focused on improving his communities in both the United States and India. With his hard work, dedication, and drive, he created jobs and opportunities for thousands of people. In 2011, he was bestowed the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, an award presented to American citizens who have distinguished themselves within their own ethnic group while exemplifying the values of the American way of life.
In addition to his professional achievements, Babu was actively involved with numerous philanthropic projects throughout his lifetime. He gave back to the people of his hometown in India by donating towards the construction of concrete roads, a town hall, a library, a bus terminal, and a junior college. He was also a major donor for the Hindu Samaj Temple and numerous charities in Dutchess County. With his diligence and hard work, he created success all over the world not only for himself but also for so many others. With his generosity, kindness and love, he shared everything with those around him.
Babu is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vidyadhari Mandava, as well as his five children: Sobharani Potluri, Nageswara Rao (Neil) Mandava, Asha Voleti, Suresh Mandava, and Naresh Mandava. He and Vidyadhari are blessed with twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous extended family members. Babu Rao succumbed to a chronic illness that he had valiantly fought for the past five years. In his last moments, he was comfortable and surrounded by loved ones. He will always be a source of pride and inspiration to his family and those he held close.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 2, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Links at Union Vale, 153 North Parliman Road, Lagrangeville, NY. Please note that access is from Parliman Road only—there is no access from Pray Lane.
