Barbara A. Bacorn, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie since 1994 and formerly of Raritan, NJ, died on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Pines of Poughkeepsie.
A direct descendant of Sir Benjamin Gilbert, the founder of Philadelphia, Barbara was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Dr. James D. and Amelia Blanth Luddy. She was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie and a member of Senior Citizen Club 62 in Poughkeepsie.
On July 16, 1932, Barbara married Edward M. Werner who predeceased her on December 3, 1958. She then married Irving Bacorn on September 8, 1963 and he predeceased her on November 14, 1986. She was also predeceased by her son, Edward Werner, in 1999; her daughter, Barbara Neito, in 2001; and her siblings, James, Sybilla, Catherine and Harriet.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Smith and husband Chester of Poughkeepsie; her son, James D. Werner and wife Carol of Raritan, NJ; eight grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkepsie followed by interment in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
