Barbara Cardella, 63, a resident of the Town of LaGrange since 1986 and formerly of East Fishkill and Queens, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada on November 27, 1945, she was the daughter of Gertrude O'Leary Houlihan of Hopewell Junction and the late Anthony Houlihan. Barbara was a Teacher at St. Joseph's School in Millbrook for eight years and then served as their Principal until her retirement in 2006. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction.

On October 5, 1974 in the Bayside section of Queens, Barbara married Joseph Cardella who survives at home. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her sons, Peter Cardella and his wife, Cristin of Austin, TX and Patrick Cardella and his wife, Mary of Pleasant Valley; her sister, Patricia Houlihan of Highland; and her grandsons, Lucas and Gavin Cardella of Pleasant Valley.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
