Barbara L. Owen, 65, a resident of Poughquag for 29 years and formerly of Rye, died on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Port Chester on April 5, 1947, she was the daughter of William Farrell of Rye and the late Anna Baluski Farrell. She was employed as a Special Education Teaching Assistant for Dutchess County BOCES for the past 15 years and was also employed by Premier Abstract in Poughkeepsie.
In addition to her father, Barbara is survived by her sons, Jason Michael Owen and his wife Jana of Prague, Andrew James Owen and his wife Jennie of Beacon and Christopher Van Owen of Fishkill; her grandchildren, William Jason, Tatiana Ana and Preston James; her sisters, Cathleen Montimurro of Stamford, CT, Vickie Cox of Rye and Jackie Wellott of Rochester; and her dear friend, Caitlin. She was also predeceased by her husband, Michael R. Owen on January 4, 2007.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Private interment will be in the Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.
