Barbara Retzer (nee Papastrat) passed away at home on October 15, 2021; she was 76 years old. She was born in Bridgeport, CT and raised in the Poughkeepsie area. She was predeceased by her parents George and Helen Papastrat and her sister Pauline Papastrat. She is survived by her devoted husband Louis Retzer (State Police Retired); her niece Cynthia Salberg (Glenn & Xander); and her nephew Al Kauffman (Alora & Logan).

Barbara graduated Poughkeepsie High School and attended Albany College of Pharmacy. She had a career as a Pharmacist spanning 40 years retiring from Hannaford's. She was a lifelong member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie.

Barbara and Lou wed in 1977. They had their dream house built, and there they raised many cherished pets over the years. She especially loved the skylight in the kitchen and enjoyed that Lou did the bulk of the cooking. When she wasn't tending to the pets and the dozens of plants and flowers that abounded in the house and yard, she enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. Barbara will be remembered for her generosity, quick wit, and no-nonsense demeanor.

Calling hours will be held for Barbara at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Tuesday, October 19 from 4 - 8 pm. A funeral service will take place at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S Grand Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY on Wednesday, October 20 at 10 am followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave, Poughkeepsie.
