Barbara Saraceno, a resident of Wappingers Falls, NY since 1970 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was 86.
Daughter of the late Saverio and Gaetana (Milo) Candaffio, she was born in the Bronx on November 14, 1937. As an adult, she dedicated many years to her family as a homemaker. Later in life, she began working as a kitchen aide for the Wappingers Central School District at John Jay Senior High School and Myers Corners Elementary School. Throughout her 20 year tenure working for the school district, she made countless friends among her coworkers, faculty, and students.
Barbara was an excellent cook and baker who always enjoyed hosting family & friends. She especially loved holiday parties and cherished spending time with those she loved. She was also a longtime communicant of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction.
On September 25, 1960, she married John Saraceno, Sr. at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx. John survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Additional survivors include her son, John Saraceno, Jr. & his wife Diane of Jordanville, NY; her daughter, Maria Saraceno Ward & her husband Francis of Hopewell Junction, NY; her granddaughters, Jennifer Souther & her husband Levi and Laura Carpenter & her husband Geoffrey; her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Hannah, and Hudson; as well as many other loving relatives & friends.
She was predeceased by her cousin, Marie Bisesto, who was raised with Barbara as a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at TIME on DAY, DATE at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
The family would like to acknowledge the physicians, nurses, and staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Hudson Valley Hospice for their compassion and dedication to Barbara's care throughout her final days.
