Obituary

Wappingers Falls- Beatrice Sabol a resident of Wappingers Falls, NY passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 15, 2023, at 3:27 am. Beatrice was 87 years old.

Beatrice was born in her home in Yonkers, NY on June 4, 1936, the daughter of Michael and Mary (O'Lear) Sabol. She was the youngest of 5 siblings.

As a young girl, Beatrice spent many of her summer months at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation where she helped her siblings run a concession stand. Here she spent time with her brothers and sister outside of the city enjoying nature. During her teenage years she spent her summer months helping run a family owned business called Pine Ridge Lodge, located in Monterey Massachusetts, where they would provide lodging and meals for guests visiting their children in the local camps.

Beatrice graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1954. She then attended SUNY Cortland where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and again furthered her education by receiving a Masters Degree in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin.

For many years she taught Physical Education in the Port Chester school district and spending summer months as a camp counselor in Harlem NY. In addition, Beatrice taught tennis and gymnastics. She was a dedicated teacher who always advocated for her students to pursue a higher education. In her later years she changed careers and worked as an investment specialist for First Investors, known now as Cetera Financial Group. In this position, she not only assisted her clients with investments but was instrumental in educating and influencing family members about the importance of saving money.

She was a patriotic woman who greatly loved and respected the U.S.A. and was an advocate for Women's rights. Beatrice was an avid dog lover and throughout the years she had many "furry babies". Her last beloved friend, whom she adored was a Chihuahua named "Chico" who predeceased her. She enjoyed collecting antiques, feeding the squirrels and birds at her home. She donated to a long list of charities and organizations that included World Life Fund, ASPCA, and Wounded Warriors to name a few.

Beatrice served on the Board of Directors for Woodhill Green Condominiums where she resided happily for many years. She was influential in organizing a number of local food drives for those in need and assisted in a campaign to get the neighborhood feral cats fixed.

Aunt Bea had a "spicy" (in a good way) personality and known for speaking her mind. She was fun loving and will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Elaine Cottle, Michael Heller, Paul Heller, Susan Nelson, Jane McGinnis,
Eileen Gilmore, Margaret Valentine, Matthew Sabol, Lisbeth and Jeffrey Sabol, and many grand nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Helen Heller, and brothers: George Sabol, Eugene Sabol and Thomas Sabol and nephew Stephen Heller.

Her family would like to extend a big thank you to her caregivers from My Angels Home Care, Lisa & Victoria as well as the friendly folks at Bagel World, who brightened her days.
