Hopewell Junction – Benigno R. Resto, Jr., 80, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 56 years and formerly of Manhattan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 7, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a long illness.
Born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, on February 22, 1944, he was the son of Benigno and Generosa Rivera Resto. Benny was a skilled goldsmith and jeweler, and the owner of Resto Associates for many years. Benny, a self-taught jack-of-all-trades, enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, and tackling DIY construction and mechanical projects. Above all, Benny, a consummate husband, father, and grandfather, enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.
On September 3, 1963, Benny married the love of his life, Iris Flores, his wife of 60 years, who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses: Benny and Fran Resto, Ivan and Michelle Resto, Melisa and Luigi Colicci, Joshua and Samantha Resto, and Kevin Maldonado and his family; his grandchildren: Benny, Krystiana, Dan, Rachel, Daryl, Cheyenne, Alanna, and Mia; his great-grandchildren: Emma, Alex, and Tina; his sister, Jesusa Rivera; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers: Angel Luis Resto, Eladio Resto, and Cristino Resto; his sister, Luz Maria Resto; and his grandsons, Richard and Justin.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service on Friday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by interment in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill. A reception will follow at Vineyard Community Church, 609 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
