BEACON - Benito Garcia, 70, an area resident since 1986 and formerly of the Bronx, died at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh on Friday, January 22, 2016.
Son of the late Benito and Cristina (Hernandez) Garcia, he was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on July 25, 1945.

He was the Master Jeweler of Garcia Jewelers in Wappingers Falls. Following his retirement, he was a special needs bus driver for the City of Beacon.
Benito enjoyed playing racquetball and loved watching his kids play sports. His true passion was as a boxing historian.

Benito is survived by his wife, Suzette Ortiz of Beacon; his children, Melissa Garcia of Tarrytown, Hazel Rivera and her husband Jason of Yonkers, Xiomara Paris Trainor and her husband, Brett of Poughkeepsie, Benito Garcia of Beacon, Benlynx Garcia of Hopewell Junction, Blue Garcia of Poughkeepsie, John Stevensky of Walden, Billy Garcia of Poughkeepsie, Lynnette Garcia of Poughquag, Bobby Garcia of Poughkeepsie, Brenden Garcia of Wappingers Falls, B'sette Garcia of Beacon, Natalee Mericle of Beacon, Taleemar Ortiz of Beacon and Neyleeane Ortiz of Beacon; his grandchildren, Brandon Gallagher, Miles and Austin Rivera, Xienna Trainor, Billy Garcia, Madyson R. Mericle and Matthew R. Mericle; his brothers, Danny Garcia of PR and Frank Garcia of PR; and his former wives, Lynnette Abrams of Wappingers Falls and Aida Marrero of the Bronx.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home followed by interment at Wappingers Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beacon City School District for the Benito Garcia Scholarship Fund, 10 Education Drive, Beacon, NY 12508.
